Overview of Faith Statement
Mercy In Action affirms our purpose for existing is to ensure safe motherhood and childhood survival, one good birth at a time.
Because all people are made in God’s image and possess infinite value and worth, we believe that women and babies deserve to survive childbirth, and that families deserve to thrive and be treated with dignity and respect.
We affirm the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed as historic expressions of the Christian faith, joining with believers across centuries. Our statement of faith, mission statement, vision statement, and our core beliefs and values statement reflect the DNA of our organization and are the constant, biblical principles that empower and guide all that we do.
Mercy In Action Statement of Faith
We believe in one God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Creator and Sustainer of all things.
We believe that every person is created in the image and likeness of God, the Imago Dei. Because of this, every human life has sacred worth and every person deserves dignity, love, respect, compassion, and justice.
We believe that humanity was created for relationship with God and with one another. Though sin has wounded these relationships, the image of God remains present in every person, and God's love continues to call us toward healing, reconciliation, and restoration.
We believe in Jesus Christ, fully God and fully human, who reveals the love of God and shows us, through his life and teachings, the fullest expression of what it means to be human and how we are called to love and treat one another. Through his life, death, and resurrection, we receive the hope of salvation, reconciliation, and new life.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who gives life, guides God's people, and empowers us to follow the way of Jesus, walking in faith, hope, love, compassion, justice, and mercy.
We believe in the Holy Scriptures as foundational to Christian faith and honor the ways we encounter God's grace through Scripture, prayer, worship, sacrament, tradition, and service.
We believe that faith in Christ calls us to love God and love our neighbors. Because every person bears the Imago Dei, we are called to uphold human dignity, care for those in need, seek justice and peace, practice mercy, and work toward reconciliation.
We believe in the resurrection of the dead, the life to come, and the hope that God will ultimately renew all things.
We believe that God is love. Therefore, we commit ourselves to seeing the image of God in every person and to following Jesus Christ in the way of love, grace, truth, mercy, and peace.
Mercy In Action Core Beliefs
We believe in advancing the Kingdom of God on earth by showing God’s love in word and deed. We believe that our kindness to the poor is a way of honoring God.
We believe that while death comes to us all, no mother or newborn should die during childbirth when the causes are preventable.
We believe that offering the safest, most compassionate maternity care possible, and teaching others to do the same, is the way we have been called to show God’s love and compassion here on earth. We commit to always give our best to those who have the least, treating each patient and their family members like we would treat Jesus.
