  • Complete well-woman health assessment: 25

  • Prenatal visits: Must care for at least 15 different women, 100 total prenatal visits

  • Use of prophylactic eye medications: 15

  • Postpartum visits to mother and baby within 36 hours of delivery: 30

  • Blood collection for Newborn Metabolic Screening: 15

  • Six-week postpartum and/or yearly physical exams and pap smears: 15

  • Family planning visits, consultations, and/or referrals: 30

  • Neonatal intensive care nursery observation at UNM Hospital or equivalent high risk medical facility nursery experience: After at least 6 months of apprenticeship

  • High risk obstetric care observation at UNM Hospital special OB clinic or equivalent medical facility experience: After at least6 months of apprenticeship

  • Provision of one complete series of prepared childbirth classes: After at least 6 months of apprenticeship

  • Observation of one complete breastfeeding information series: After at least 6 months of apprenticeship

Student Permit Requirement?

Students must apply for and obtain a $50 student permit before completing any clinical work. This permit is valid for two years, after which it can be renewed once. A student can hold an apprentice permit for four years total, by which time it is expected the student will take the NARM exam.
